Fish surfboards are a hybrid between a mini long board and a short board. While a fish surfboard is short enough to do all the turns and cutbacks that can be accomplished with a short board, it maintains the width of a mini long board and is thick enough to paddle well and float. These are perfect for intermediate surfers looking for more of a challenge, and may be owned as a second board that you use when the waves are just right for a different type of experience. It allows for a more customized, edgier surfing ride that makes for a heart pumping good time. There is often the question as to whether to bite the bullet and purchase a new surfboard, or save some money and buy a used board. While newer surf boards cost more, there is something to be said for breaking in a board yourself. Surfers have individual styles that are ingrained in their boards, and buying one brand new guarantees your style is the only one it will know. While new does not necessarily guarantee quality, it is often considered the less risky choice, and often there is a larger variety to choose from. Some of the more recent styles may only be available new, meaning you won’t necessarily have a choice between used or new for a specific board. When it comes to cheap surfboards, it is better to go with high quality used boards than with cheaper new boards. The reason is that a used board costs less simply because it has been used before, while a new board that is cheap costs less because it was cheaper to make. This goes back to the idea that new does not necessarily mean high quality. Cheap boards often use cheaper materials. Choosing a board that is high quality but has been used is a great idea because a high quality board will last a long time, and the fact that it has been used before means it costs less. There are some great quality used boards available if money is an issue.
