CLEVELAND, Ohio — University of Florida sophomore Marissa King claimed the 2011 NCAA vault title Sunday in the NCAA Gymnastics Championships’ Individual Event finals held in the Wolstein Center.
Her win returns the vault title to Florida for the first time since 1998. That season was the last time a Gator stepped to the top of the NCAA Championships’ awards stand, as Betsy Hamm and Susan Hines claimed a share of the balance beam and vault titles, respectively. For Hines, it was her second consecutive NCAA vault title and before Sunday, she was the only Gator to claim the NCAA vault crown.

In gymnastics, in the vault, why do the women jump on the spring board differently than the men?
When watching the vault in gymnastics, I see the women will back handspring into the spring board whereas the men will run up and jump on it. By doing a back handspring into the board does that enable the women to generate more power on their vaults?
they get on the vault different ways. running and jumping on it, hand spring, just depends on the difficulty of it. It adds more difficulty to that. I believe its cuz you have to use so much more strength to get yourself up and get alot of air. Plus,
